animal airport

                        Animal air-port
                                                                                                                                                                                                                    Elizabeth                                                                                                                                                                                                                                      Westlund

I read an article about an air-port for animals.

This air-port makes sure your animal has no diseases and them they are taken to enjoy themselves at luxurious stables and Dog-parks.  No humans can ever go inside but are monitored on little security cams so the people can watch there animals from their own rooms.  The dog parks have huge flat-screen TV's and bone shaped pools and pedicure stations.  The horses and cows have large stables and other necessities for them.

I personally didn't like this article because I don't think we should spend thousands of dollars on animals because they are just pets.  I mean COWS,  you are just going to eat them anyway, why spend thousands of dollars on cows.  I personally think it is simply stupid to spend that much money on cows and horses.

Birthday weekend

                            MY BIRTHDAY WEEKEND

                                                                                                                                                                                             Elizabeth

My birthday was a very busy fun-packed weekend.  It started on the 25th and ended on the 29th.

On the 25th, we had a family birthday party and my dad brought 2 red roses and 2 helium birthday balloons.  I got a giant container of hot chocolate and 3 hats, a joke-book, a mega dot-to-dot,and some of my own boots.  After that, my family had a PAC-man tournament.

On the 26th, I had no school, and I had a friend birthday party.  We played really creepy games in the dark like, Zombie apocalypses, Mafia, Creature in the night, and different "dark" games.

On the 27th, I got to go Snowboarding!!!  It was REALLY fun.  Mom, Val and Matthew went tubing.  I did not go tubing very long.  After Mom and I went tubing, we went to a Hockey Game at the Sanford center.  The Hockey players were graduating men from BSU.

On the 29th, It was Sunday, of course, and so we went to church.  After church, Mom, Matthew and I went to Target, And I bought the 3D version of Majoras Mask for my 3Ds.

Overall, That weekend was fun and filled with friends and family.

                                                             Westlund

I had an assignment in school to write a report about the 4 different kinds of animals i have read about in the past few weeks.

The 2 types of mammals I read about were the beaver and the swiftlet. Both of these make dome-shaped homes and eat fish.  The beaver lives in small groups but the swiftlet lives in large groups with tens of thousands of other swiftlets.

I also read about 2 different kinds of insects.  they are the bee and the ant.  Both of these insects sting because the ant the text was referring to was the army ant.  Both these insects travel in groups to find food but bees aren't usually nomadic while army ants are.  Another main difference , is that bees can fly and ants can not.

I read an article about a certain building in London .  This building to most is extremely ugly, but i think it is beautiful.

This building was nicknamed the walkie- talky building because it is curved on one side like a phone.  It is a 37 story office building and sticks out a bit from its blokish surroundings.

The bad thing part about this building is that since it is curved, it reflects wind and light making them much stronger and aiming them towards the city below. the light from the sun can get so hot  that it can singe a persons hair or even melt a pool chair!

In the end,  only a small amount of people actually like this building , but most hate it.

I read an article about people helping kids that don't have certain parts of their bodies.

In the children hospital in Philadelphia, have been helping kids with crucial needs.  The article I read was about a 7 year old boy named Zion.  When Zion was 2, he got a life-threatening disease that spread through his body.  because of this, he had to have both hands, both feet and his kidney surgery removed.  until he was 7, he learned to cope with every-day life.  He even learned how to play video games!  When he turned 7, he was given a double hand-transplant, and it was successful.  The doctors had to watch him for 2 weeks to insure there would be no infections.

I liked this article because it made me realize how thankful I should be that this didn't happen to me and it shows God was really watching out for Zion.

army ants

                                                                          Westlund

Army ants are the deadliest ants who devour anything in their way.  They are also incredibly vicious.  they dwell in the damp rain forests.  Each colony of ants has around 20,000,000 ants in it.  That is a lot of ants.  These ants are very vicious versus other ants.

In the daytime, the ants set up camp and protect their queen carefully.  at night, though, they go out hunting and eat anything that gets in their way.  Some  of the stuff they eat is, goats, lizards, chickens, pigs, scorpions and anything that gets in their way.  Army ants don't just stay in one place, though, they are nomadic killers.  Sometimes these ants raid even other ant nests,  They re  vicious .  They can kill anything.  they are unstoppable.

sustainable energy

                             SUSTAINABLE    ENERGY

                                                                                Elizabeth
                                                                                    westlund

I read an article about sustainable energy and what really is in it.  Many people think that the new solar energy is super natural and clean.  Well, it is not as natural as you might of thought.

Here is an idea on what sustainable energy uses to work.  the first percent is made with 13% renewable which is made with 48% hydroelectric, 34% wind, 8% biomass(wood), 4% biomass(waste), 3% geothermal, 3% solar.  That was only the first percent in sustainable energy. The rest is 1% oil, 19%nuclear, 1%other gasses, 27% natural gas , 39% coal.

I think that being "green"is mostly for attention.  I think that we can use the resources that God has given us but not to waste them.  The People that say they are 100% natural, they really are not as you saw in the example above.  on the other hand , everyone has their own opinion.

Football Safety

                           NFL Safety

                                                                                         Elizabeth
                                                                                                                           westlund

I read an article about brain damage in Professional Football players who play in the NFL.

The tackling in football is becoming a colossal safety issue, because of a brain disease called CTE.
CTE is created when a person gets to many major blows to the head.  One time an autopsy was done on 91 pro football players and 87 of them had the disease.  What can prevent this?

Many people insult Pro football players because of the dangers.  The coaches on the other hand, wanted to keep their players safe so they have been working on several safety projects. some of them are limiting most bodily contact and tackling in practice and putting several medical people ready to respond to any immediate injuries.

I think it is good that people are trieng to protect the players and making the sport safer.

                                                                                                   Elizabeth

Swiftlets are cunning birds that don't live in an ordinary nest.  These nests are not made out of sticks or are in a tree.  These birds live in dark caves in Asia.  Swiftlets craft their nests from their thick saliva.

Working together,  the male and female swiftlet use their long tongues to spit an outline on where the nest would be.  They carefully layer the sticky saliva on the outline and the saliva dries quickly.  Soon the nest looks like a half bowl on the damp walls.  Now for the Swiflet  couple , the nest is ready.  The nest looks and feels like dried white glue.

One cave can have hundreds of swiflet nest.  sometimes, brave men venture inside the cave and take multiple nests even though it is very dangerous.  One pound of nest can cost up to $100!

Chefs buy these expensive nests for a savory dish called bird nest soup .  this soup might only have a few pieces in it but can cost around $100!  Swiftlets not only have the tastiest home but the most expensive one in
the whole animal kingdom!!

Book Report

Horse shoe Crabs
by:Elizabeth Westlund
Oct. 2015

I read an artical in an old "Ranger Rick"magazine about Horseshoe crabs.
These crabs have ten different eyes and ten legs.  Eight of the ten eyes are used for sensing and the last two are used for looking and seeing just like people.  These crabs lay little green eggs that look just like peas and are only as big as a little o in the alphabet.

The "Red Knots" are becoming extinct.  Why you ask?  Well it is because of people .  these birds usually eat Horseshoe crab eggs but since people have been catching more and more crabs, the crabs don't want to come to shore as often to lay eggs so then the Red Knots don't have a full stomach to get them to their migratory homes.  The Horseshoe Crabs might not be coming to shore as often because of polluted waters....No one knows.

I Liked this artical because it proves Evolution is not true. there is one main Reason,  they stayed the same and are still the same and there is evidence proving it.

I read an article in the "World Teen" magazene about a new sport called "Fowling".

Fowling is a type of football\bowling.  It is practically the same as bowling unless you hit only the middle pin.  If you do this then you blow a bugle horn and say you got a "Bonk Honk".  Everything but that is the same as bowling but just with a football.  This game was originated in Detroit,  Michigan.  It was made by a man named Mr. Hutt.  This game is becoming very popular.

I think it would be fun to "Fowl" and that is one of the main reasons I chose this article.

A boy , in Alaska, found a Rainbow Beetle which is even more rare to be found in Alaska because it walks everywhere.  Being flightless, it takes a very long time to go from place to place.

I liked this article because it makes me think about why God would make a beetle like the Rainbow beetle and how cool it is. Scientists buy these bugs because they want to study them.  They pay a Lot for them. From my own expeirence, these bugs are so pretty because they are truly colorful.

Once upon a time, in the earlier, lush Arizona, before the giant, jagged, jutting rock formations,.. was Tortoice and Hare.  Yes the same ones that ran that ever famed race.

One day, Tortoice stumbled upon an ancient, abandoned, ghastly laboritory.  He entered.  Inside, Inside were bottles and capsules filled with coulourful liquids that were labeled different names such as..." Mustle Mist" or "Speedo Spray".  Finally Tortoice found one he wanted. it was called "Anything you want Sirum".  Tortoice was astonished. He then grabbed the capsule  and greedily drank it and ran outside.  Meanwhile, on the other side of the lab was hare.  He was doing the same thing as Tortoice.  When Tortoice ran outside, Hare did to and they ran into each other. They both were as scared as a porcipine in a baloon factory.  Hare was first to recover from his scare.  He then challenged Tortoice to a new race.  Tortoice happily agreed to the challenge.

Tortoice  and Hare began racing.   They were now 10x their original size and much faster after drinking the sirum.  After exacly 10 min...Arizona as they knew it was now over turned.  Its graceful lakes were now mud holes, and there were giant towers of jagged red rock.  Being so big they shifted the climet so it was quite warm.  Just as Tortoice and hare were about to see who was going to win...
their Sirums wore off .

Tortoice and Hare now looked at the new home he created.  T hey now had to fight to survive in this new world all because of the "Anything you want Sirum"
